How we make money
Hype Free Reviews is reader-supported. This page explains exactly how, in plain language, because you are entitled to know before you click.
The short version
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and go on to buy something, the retailer may pay us a commission under the terms of that programme. We do not display product prices; check the retailer's current offer and terms before buying.
Which links are affiliate links
Outbound links to retailers on review, comparison and buying guide pages are generally affiliate links. Links to our own pages, to source documents and to third-party research are not. Every article that contains affiliate links carries a disclosure at the top of the body and again in the sidebar.
What it does not change
- We do not accept payment for a review. A brand cannot buy coverage.
- We do not accept payment for a score, and scores are not adjusted for commission rate.
- We do not accept payment for a ranking position in a list.
- We do not let brands approve or edit copy before it is published.
- Commission rate is not part of the rating-and-count scoring formula.
The current catalogue draws from participating affiliate merchants, so it is not a complete survey of every product on the market. A site score represents weighted customer ratings, not a hands-on award.
Programmes we participate in
We participate in affiliate programmes operated by retailers and by affiliate networks. Commission rates vary by product and category and can change without notice. We do not publish individual rates because they are commercially confidential, but they never influence a verdict.
Sponsored content
We do not publish sponsored reviews. If we ever publish a clearly labelled advertisement or sponsored placement, it will be visually distinct from editorial content, labelled as such at the top of the page, and excluded from our review and scoring system entirely.
Free products and samples
Current feedback-based reviews are not hands-on product tests. If we ever evaluate a supplied sample, we will identify the source and testing method on that article. We do not accept a sample in exchange for favourable coverage.
